Report: Rangers now battling PL clubs for James McAtee

Rangers are looking to follow the deal for Amad Diallo, that Giovanni Van Bronckhorst wants to bring James McAtee to Ibrox.

The Gers have made one of the most exciting deals of the window by landing Diallo. Rangers have signed the 19-year-old on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the season.

And it appears that they may be keen to strengthen further. TEAMtalk reports that the Scottish Premiership champions are one of the sides keen on Manchester City starlet McAtee.

McAtee has made a handful of first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola’s men. But he has been in outstanding form for the under-23s.

He has scored 14 goals and provided four assists in 15 Premier League 2 games this season from attacking midfield. Meanwhile, he has four in three in the UEFA Youth League.

Rangers do not have a clear run to his signature, however. that several Premier League clubs also want the 19-year-old.

Interestingly, it is claimed that Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is also eyeing a move for McAtee. Brendan Rodgers is another of his admirers.

TEAMtalk adds that City are weighing up the best move for McAtee, which would certainly suggest that they are looking at possible loan moves.

However, the report does not make it clear, so perhaps a permanent bid may yet be considered.

Rangers remain top of the table. However, Alfredo Morelos is their top goalscorer in the league, with eight so far. No player in the entire division is into double figures yet.

The likes of Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe have six each. So it would be a boost if Rangers could add another goalscorer to their ranks. He has been labelled a ‘‘ by Joao Cancelo of all people.

And landing McAtee’s signature would be even sweeter should they beat Villa in the race.
