Report: Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty unsure on Hull move, former loan boss rules out move

Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty is all set to leave Ibrox this summer with Steven Gerrard ready to let the young midfielder leave Glasgow.

The 23-year-old arrived at Ibrox with much fanfare and predictions of being a future Rangers superstar. However, the midfield dynamo has struggled to establish himself as a Rangers first-team option and Gerrard is now ready to let him move on.

So where might the Rangers talent end up?

He has recently been linked with a move back to English football.

Rangers sent him out for a spell away from Ibrox at Shrewsbury Town in 2018-19. He thrived at the League One club, playing 50 games. However, a move back to New Meadow is not likely.

Shrewsbury boss Sam Ricketts confirmed as much this week.

“Obviously he would be of interest to us and a number of clubs but it’s not something we feel is possible, really, to be honest with you at the minute,” Ricketts “Given the current climate he is going to attract interest from a number of places. With two years left on his contract it will be quite a tough deal for anyone to get over the line.

“With the salary cap coming in in our league like it has, it makes it very difficult for anyone to do that deal with the length of deal he still has at Rangers.”

Hull City is another option, following the Tigers relegation to League One. However, that Docherty is ‘yet to decide’ if a move to the KCOM Stadium would be beneficial.

Rangers fans will no doubt be disappointed if they lose Docherty, considering the high hopes many had when he first arrived from Hamilton in 2018.

But hopefully the Scotland under-21 international can find himself the right club to finally develop into the player Rangers first thought he could.
