Report: Rangers in advanced talks to sign Kemar Roofe, deal ‘imminent’

that Rangers are in advanced talks to complete the signing of Anderlecht striker Kemar Roofe, with a deal to sign the English ace labelled as ‘imminent’.

Roofe, 27, was a shock exit from Leeds United last summer as the Whites chose to cash in on the Birmingham-born attacker. He cost Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht a princely £5.5million (), but he has since struggled.

He managed just 16 appearances for Anderlecht last season and although he scored seven goals and created three more – Roofe struggled with numerous injuries. Even now, it is believed Roofe is not 100% fit.

That has convinced Anderlecht to cash in. The report claims the two sides are in advanced talks to secure a deal for Roofe, claiming a move is ‘imminent’. Anderlecht want Aarhus attacker Mustapha Bundu as his replacement.

TBR’s view – How Rangers could look with Roofe

Steven Gerrard currently uses a 4-3-3 system that sees Alfredo Morelos spearhead an attack that also includes players such as Ianis Hagi, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo. Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara are somewhat more defensive.

But if Roofe was to sign and Morelos remained, how would Rangers look? A change in formation may be the start. At Leeds, Roofe sometimes played in a number 10 role in front of Kalvin Phillips in an attacking 4-1-4-1.

That may be the way to go. Jack sitting behind Roofe and Aribo, with Kent and Hagi out wide – and Morelos up front. Attacking, but exciting. But it is more than likely that Roofe could be a replacement for Morelos.
