Report: Rangers could loan Greg Docherty and Matt Polster out in January

, Greg Docherty and Matt Polster could be amongst the players to leave Rangers in January, with the pair in line to potentially leave Ibrox on loan.

Docherty went into this campaign off the back of a superb loan spell last season. He scored 10 goals in all competitions for Shrewsbury. And the Rangers fans appeared to have high hopes that he would thrive upon his return.

Meanwhile, Polster’s versatility also hinted that he would have a role to play for Gerrard’s men, particularly given that they would be looking to battle on four fronts this term.

However, neither has managed to enjoy much game-time so far. Neither has started a Scottish Premiership game this season – Docherty, in fact, has not featured in the league since April 2018.

And it appears that they could get the chance to prove themselves elsewhere. that Gerrard’s priority in January is to offload players, and Docherty and Polster are two members of the squad who could be loaned out.

The Record adds that Ross Wilson will be tasked with trying to sell Eros Grezda permanently.

It is a worrying sign for Docherty that he could be loaned out. He could have done little more to prove himself last season. So he may be concerned about his long-term future as he remains in a similar position to where he was before he left for Shrewsbury.

Polster’s situation is arguably less surprising. He is battling for a chance in the positions where Rangers look particularly strong.

A loan move looks as though it could be beneficial for both men. But perhaps, they may wonder whether the opportunity is there to improve their Ibrox prospects, or to get themselves in the shop window for a permanent move away.
