Report: Rafa Mujica set for loan termination as Real Oviedo target replacement

Reports in Spain are suggesting that Rafa Mujica is set to have his loan spell at Real Oviedo cancelled and he will return to Leeds United this month.

that Oviedo are currently on the hunt for new recruits, with Brandon Thomas of Osasuna their main target.

But for a deal to be done, they must let one of their current players go and Mujica is the most likely option.

Mujica has barely played for Oviedo this season and despite recent Mujica looks set to be on his way.

The 22-year-old joined Leeds from Barcelona B in 2019, another one of Victor Orta’s recruits from his homeland, but has spent most of his time with the club out on loan. He had stints with Extremadura and Villarreal B last season before agreeing to join Oviedo in the summer.

The Spanish second-tier side had the option to buy Mujica at the end of his loan spell. when signing Mujica in the summer.

But that now looks unlikely given his struggle for first-team minutes with the club.

It would seem likely that Mujica remains in Spain if the deal is cancelled, rather than return to England, due to Covid-19 protocols.

Leeds could then hunt for a new team to take him on board for the rest of the season. If Leeds fail to do so, then expect Mujica to pop back up in the under-23s before the end of the season.
