Report: Premier League manager rejected the chance to sign ‘phenomenal’ Everton player during the summer
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper rejected the chance to sign James Garner from Manchester United before he joined Everton.
Cooper had Garner on loan from Old Trafford last season and the midfielder played a key part as Premier League football returned to the City Ground.
But a report by the claims that Cooper rejected the idea of bringing back Garner – as well as Philip Zinckernagel.
That is despite the fact that Forest could probably have done with greater continuity during a summer when they embarked on a huge squad overhaul.

Cooper rejected Garner
Garner then made a deadline day move to Goodison Park, where he is yet to start a game since his arrival because of fitness problems.
Perhaps that is why Cooper did not go back in for a man who had been so integral to Forest’s promotion back to the big time.
Frank Lampard reiterated his faith in the ‘phenomenal‘ midfielder ahead of the weekend clash at Tottenham, where the Toffees went down 2-0.
Lampard replied when asked about Garner’s debut against his old club earlier this month: “Very impressed. I thought to go up against your old team, the team you came through with, adds a bit of pressure.
“I thought it was good pressure for him. He came on and showed personality on the ball. Passed it well, got a shot which was nearly going into the top corner.
“So I have no doubts with James. He is a player for the now but also for the future, of course. There’s competition for places in midfield but he gives us something different. He’s more than ready to play for us.”
