Report: Premier League club are now in talks with Liverpool over signing their ‘incredible’ player

Nottingham Forest are in talks with Liverpool over the signing of Welsh international defender Neco Williams.

It was reported earlier this month that Forest have made an official bid for Williams, and that the player himself wanted to leave.

And now the are saying that the situation has developed to the point where Forest are negotiating a fee with Liverpool.

The report says the Reds want £15 million, and they do not want to send Williams out on loan again.

Forest in talks with Liverpool over Neco Williams

Williams spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, who have also made a bid for him, according to reports.

Liverpool have now signed Calvin Ramsay, who looks set to be their backup right-back to Trent Alexander-Arnold next season.

Williams can play on the left of defence, and he does that for Wales, albeit often in a back five as a wing-back, whereas Liverpool invariably play a back four.

But the signs are that Williams will be allowed to leave to start the next chapter of his career if Forest get to a fee Liverpool find acceptable.

Williams has been described by James Milner as ‘incredible‘ but it is hard for any young right-back to get past Alexander-Arnold in the Liverpool first team.

He is best off going somewhere he will play every week, especially with the World Cup on the horizon, for which he will want to be on top form.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will resolutely hold out for £15 million, or compromise with Steve Cooper’s newly-promoted side, who seem to be ahead of Fulham at this stage.
