Leno’s move to Fulham has been dragging on for some time, with the Cottagers reportedly closing in on a move for the 30-year-old more than three weeks ago.

The time taken to get the deal done has frustrated everyone involved, but Fulham will be glad that the deal finally looks to be over the line with the start to the season just days away.

Leno will leave Arsenal soon, Fulham hopeful of Liverpool debut

Leno will become the fifth signing to arrive at Craven Cottage this summer as Fulham look to avoid a third straight immediate relegation from the Premier League.

Joao Palhinha, Andreas Pereira, Kevin Mbabu and Manor Solomon have already joined the Championship champions.

However, Fulham will be hoping for more defensive signings before the season starts,

“These players are ready for the Premier League. I congratulate them for the work they have been doing. They were fantastic last season and they are working really hard. But we as a squad are not ready.”

“I will tell you one more. No one can prepare a season with two central defenders at this level.”

Fulham were linked with a move for Spurs centre-back Joe Rodon, however he looks set to join Rennes.

.

Fulham were the best attacking side in the Championship last season, scoring 106 goals on their way to the title, but defensively there were some question marks.

Alfie Mawson and Michael Hector have both left on free transfers, , leaving Tim Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo as the only two senior centre-backs at the club.

There are serious concerns that it’s taken Fulham too long to strengthen at the back, and the arrival of Liverpool’s terrifying front line means Bernd Leno could have his work cut out if Silva selects him.

Leno’s departure at Arsenal, meanwhile, is unlikely to cause too many complications.

Arsenal have already brought in Matt Turner to act as back-up to Aaron Ramsdale this season.

Leno has been a fine servant for Arsenal but a goalkeeper of his quality was always unlikely to be happy sitting on the bench, after being displaced by Ramsdale last season.
