Report: PL side left frustrated in bid to sign 22-year-old Arsenal player

Crystal Palace are being left frustrated in their bid to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal during the January transfer window, .

It would appear that Patrick Vieira is eyeing the Gunners starlet as a replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Eagles loanee is wanted by Saint-Etienne, according to The Sun.

Palace are prepared to let Mateta cut his loan spell at Selhurst Park short. However, they want a replacement signed. And Nketiah is one of those apparently on their radar.

The Arsenal man is out of contract at the Emirates in the summer. And previous reports have suggested that he has told the Gunners that he is planning to leave.

Crystal Palace are one side keen on a deal for Nketiah. However, that the Eagles are being left frustrated in their pursuit.

It is not clear why they are not making progress. But there have been reports in recent weeks that have suggested that his representatives are eyeing a lucrative move to the Bundesliga. So perhaps, it may be the player’s stance on a potential Palace move that is the issue.

Arsenal cannot sell Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace this month – unless new striker comes in

Nketiah has never quite been able to convince the Arsenal fans. He has shown a lot of promise. And Paul Merson recently backed him to ‘only get better and better‘. But he has probably not built upon that potential in the bigger games.

And some fans would suggest trying to sell him this month to ensure the Gunners receive a fee. However, Mikel Arteta will surely resist that urge unless a new striker comes in.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not played for several weeks. And Alexandre Lacazette has never been overly prolific. So Nketiah does have a role to play in the second-half of the season.

Arsenal should not shut the door on selling Nketiah completely. But they should make it clear to Crystal Palace that signing this month is going to take a hefty fee.
