Report: PL club are ramping up £30m star’s contract talks because of what Tottenham have done this summer
Aston Villa are now ramping up contract talks with Brazilian international midfielder Douglas Luiz, who has just one year left on his current deal.
The claim that Villa and Luiz were in discussions over a new deal earlier this year, amid January transfer interest from Newcastle, who made a bid of £30 million.
But as it stands, Luiz will be a free agent at the end of next season, and Steven Gerrard is keen to keep hold of him.
That is apparently doubly pertinent because two potential Luiz replacements have gone off the market this summer.

Villa step up Luiz contract talks
Tottenham have signed Villa target Yves Bissouma as part of an aggressive summer recruitment drive, and Kalvin Phillips has joined Manchester City.
Those two were under consideration by Villa to replace Luiz if he did go, and the fact they are both off the table makes the need to keep the Brazilian even more acute.
Villa apparently remain optimistic of getting Luiz to commit his future to the club, and they see him as integral to what they are trying to do moving forward.

Last season, Gerrard said: “Douglas is a fantastic player, really talented and we rate him extremely highly.
“We want to keep all of our best players around. We understand there will be interest in our best players as well, we don’t have a problem with that.
“But yes we want to keep all of our top talent around, we see Douglas as a top talent, a really wonderful footballer on his day. It’s my job to try and make this team and this squad as strong, littered with top footballers.”
