that the Black Cats plan to hold talks with former Bolton boss Parkinson this weekend, while there are also a number of other candidates in the frame.

TBR’s View
The calibre of the coaches linked with the post highlights the appeal of taking charge of Sunderland. Pearson has managed in the Premier League, while he has also led his teams to the League One and Championship title.
Cook meanwhile, would be dropping down a division if he took the job. He also has a League One title on his CV.
Parkinson has been promoted from the third tier on two occasions, while he famously led Bradford City to the League Cup final during his time at Valley Parade.
And with plenty of time left in the season and Sunderland just four points off the top two, you would imagine that any of the club’s reported targets would be more than capable of adding another promotion to their record this season should they get the job.
