Report: Pau Torres named among players Liverpool want to replace Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool have identified a number of players to replace Virgil van Dijk in January, with claiming that Villarreal defender Pau Torres is among the names being considered.

The Reds are in desperate need of a replacement for the Dutchman, who will miss the rest of the season thanks to a knee injury sustained against Everton last weekend.

Among the names people are already aware of such as Dayot Upemecano and Ozan Kabak, Spanish star Torres’ name is a new player added to the list of potential replacements.

Torres, 23, has emerged as one of the top defenders in La Liga in recent seasons, winning five caps for Spain along the way.

And believe that Liverpool could move for Torres, with potential swoops for the likes of Upemecano and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde set to prove too expensive for the Reds.

The Villarreal ace played 34 times for the La Liga outfit last season. A central defender, Torres has three and a half years to run on his current contract in Spain.

Torres has developed in recent seasons to become one of the best defenders in Spain and it’s little surprise to see him being linked with a move to Liverpool.

Classy, quick, and good on the ball, he has all the assets to replace Van Dijk in terms of being a ball-playing centre-half.

Obviously, it could depend on money in terms of a deal being done. However, with the likes of Upemecano and Kounde set to cost extortionate amounts, Torres could be a shrewd alternative.
