Of course, Paratici has already signed a player this summer Garner knows well. Like Garner, Spence spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest.

that Paratici was impressed with Garner on every occasion in which he went to look at Spence.

Garner and Spence both played pivotal roles in Forest securing promotion. So it is no surprise that the Manchester United man caught Paratici’s eye along with Spence.

But Tottenham probably do not need to sign another young midfielder this summer. They have added Yves Bissouma in this window. And Antonio Conte will hope to have Oliver Skipp available for most of the campaign.

Of course, the squad is going to be stretched. Tottenham will be battling on four fronts this season.

But they will potentially have much greater priorities for the final stages of the window.

However, Tottenham will certainly be one team to keep an eye on while Garner’s future remains uncertain – particularly if he remains at Manchester United beyond this window.
