Report: Panathinaikos want Newcastle’s Rolando Aarons as alternative to Celtic duo Mikey Johnston and Lewis Morgan

Panathinaikos want both Cal Roberts (who was released by Newcastle) and Aarons. These two wingers are being eyed by the Greek heavyweights, who had a disappointing 2018/19 campaign.
After finishing eighth in a 16-team league, Panathinaikos want to reclaim their glory days. Roberts and Aarons are two potential signings for them this summer.
Nikos Dabizas could be playing a large role in this. The former Newcastle centre-back is now working behind the scenes at Panathinaikos and could be pulling the strings.
Aarons is out of favour at St James’ Park and needs to force an exit. The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season at Sheffield Wednesday on loan. During his time with the Owls, he played 10 games, scoring once.
Now he could be set for a loan move to Greece. Panathinaikos are cash-strapped, though, so Newcastle might have to subsidise some of his wages if he moves on loan.

TBR’s view
Aarons needs a fresh start away from Newcastle and a loan move to Panathinaikos could do wonders for his career. The Jamaica-born ex-England starlet has had his issues with injuries but there is clearly some talent there.
He has skill, pace and an impressive left foot but he needs to add consistency to his game throughout a whole season. He is bound to have other offers if this deal falls through.
