Report: Palace and Brendan Rodgers join Tottenham in race to sign on-loan Premier League defender

Crystal Palace, Leicester City and RB Leipzig have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Schalke’s Ozan Kabak. Liverpool have decided against completing a permanent move for their on-loan centre-back. However, he is still expected to leave relegated Schalke.

Kabak, 21, played just 13 times for Liverpool after joining the club on loan in January from Schalke. While he filled a gap, he did little to allay the defensive fears among Liverpool fans. Eventually, Jurgen Klopp reverted to Nat Phillips, who ended the season in incredibly strong form.

The defender has now returned to Schalke – but he could be back in the Premier League sooner rather than later. Palace and Leicester are keen, as are Leipzig. The reports come after said Fabio Paratici wanted him at Tottenham. he is rated at £21.5million.

Which club needs Kabak most – Palace, Leicester or Tottenham?

Palace are about to lose a whole host of their players. Mamadou Sakho, Gary Cahill and Scott Dann are all about to see their contracts expire this month. A centre-back is needed and perhaps one who is young, with resale value. Kabak fits the bill for the Eagles, though he might be a bit pricy.

Leicester need additions but Kabak is hardly good enough to start for Leicester, with Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu preferred. Tottenham, though, might be ideal. They need to bring in a defender that can cut out the mistakes and it seems like a match made in heaven.
