Report: Overseas title winners make contact with Spurs over signing ‘phenomenal’ player, they’re ‘serious’

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a fruitful transfer window, bringing in five players and closing in on a sixth.

England Under-21 full-back Djed Spence is reportedly set to join Tottenham from Middlesbrough.

He’d follow Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet in joining Spurs.

Tottenham have also sold three players this summer – Steven Bergwijn, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jack Clarke.

There could yet be more departures as Spurs look to recoup funds and offload players surplus to requirements.

Japhet Tanganga is one of the players who Tottenham could potentially consider selling.

Several clubs have been linked with the 23-year-old, including Newcastle United and AC Milan.

Now, – via – have reported that the Serie A champions have got in touch with Spurs over Tanganga.

The Tottenham talent fits the profile Milan are looking at, added the Italian outlet.

The Rossoneri failed to land Sven Botman, who joined Newcastle instead.

And now, Milan have apparently decided to change strategy and focus on a young profile for their backline.

They have drawn up a list of options, and ‘among the first places’ on that list is the name of Tanganga.

Milan reportedly held ‘contacts’ with the player’s agents in recent days.

And now, they have ‘started the first contacts’ with Tottenham about a potential deal, added the report.

That’s seen as a sign that they are willing to get ‘more and more serious’ to try and land the defender.

“Could become one of the best”

Tanganga is currently in South Korea with the Spurs squad on their pre-season tour.

Conte reportedly wants to take a close look at him before deciding whether to sell him.

But if Milan come in with a decent offer, then Tottenham will have some thinking to do.

In August 2021, a Spurs coach told : “He has the assets to be a phenomenal right-back.

“With a bit of work on how he can produce in the final third more – improving his crossing and passing – he could become one of the best right-backs in the league.”

However, Tanganga is yet to become a first-team regular at Spurs.

He is now 23 and will be keen to kick on and play regular first-team football.

If Conte and Spurs can’t offer him that, Tanganga may decide it is time to move on
