Report: Orta has been a big fan of ‘creative’ title-winning player for some time, now Leeds have made their move

Leeds United haven’t signed a senior central midfielder since January 2018, when Adam Forshaw joined the Whites.

However, Leeds are now apparently eager to splash the cash to bring a talented 21-year-old to Elland Road.

Ahead of the January transfer window, claimed Leeds were just one of ‘many clubs’ eyeing Brenden Aaronson.

On Tuesday, reported that Leeds made a £15million offer for the Red Bull Salzburg playmaker.

Although the Austrians apparently rejected the Whites’ bid, the Elland Road outfit is seemingly eager to try again.

According to , Leeds director Victor Orta is a long-time admirer of Aaronson.

“The Whites would not be prepared to splash such a significant amount of cash on a player if Marcelo Bielsa was not on board with the idea,” added the report.

The YEP also claimed Aaronson’s style of play appears ideal for Leeds.

Analytics FC’s head of content Jon Makenzie told the YEP: “He would fit the more attacking eight profile in Bielsa’s team.

“A pressy attacking midfielder who creates chances both though passing and carrying the ball, and who has great movement off the ball too.”

While Salzburg appear unwilling to do business for Aaronson, the Daily Mail claims the player himself is open to joining Leeds and working with Bielsa.

“I like to pick holes in defences”

Aaronson has been superb since joining Salzburg in January 2021 from Philadephia Union.

The 21-year-old made 25 appearances last season, including 20 in the Austrian Bundesliga en route to the title.

This season, Salzburg sit 14 points clear at the top of the table and look likely to triumph again.

In addition, they’re in the last 16 of the Champions League, where they’ll face Bayern Munich.

Aaronson has three goals and seven assists in 26 appearances across all competitions this season for his club.

He has also won 15 caps for the United States, scoring five goals and winning the CONCACAF Nations League in 2021.

After joining Salzburg, Aaronson told their that Steven Gerrard was his role model growing up.

He also said he joined the club as they play “fast, direct and attacking football”, which he loves.

When it came to his style of football, Aaron said he’s about “a lot of creative work.

“I work hard, I’m aggressive, I like to pick holes in defences and provide assists.”
