Report: Omar Colley was on Leeds United radar before signing new Sampdoria deal

Leeds United were reportedly interested in a potential move for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley,

The report does not go into detail about any potential interest from Leeds, simply suggesting that Leeds ‘had been interested’ in a potential deal for the Gambia international centre-back this winter.

Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United had also been credited with an interest in multiple publications in recent weeks. Colley had a release clause in his deal with the Blucerchiati worth around £10.8 million, which saw him linked with a host of Premier League names as well as Scottish champions Celtic.

With Leeds United’s centre-back situation often one for concern this season it had been suggested that the Whites might decide to make a move for a new defender in January.

Colley would certainly fit the bill, especially at that price.

But the truth now is that Leeds, as well as any other team, has little chance of signing Colley.

The same report from Football Italia is suggesting that Colley has actually signed a new deal with the Serie A side, keeping him at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris until 2025.

If Leeds are on the hunt for a new centre-back this month, then Colley is an option who swiftly passed them by.
