Report: Offer made by second-tier club for Rangers and Celtic-linked free agent

that Scottish Championship side Dundee United have made an offer for free agent striker Lawrence Shankland, in what is a somewhat surprise move with Rangers and Celtic also keen

The 23-year-old striker was on fire Ayr United in the second tier last season, clocking up 34 goals in just 41 goals. He has also added eight assists, but is leaving the club this summer amid huge interest.

Both Celtic and Rangers are interested in the Scotland Under-21 international, as is English Championship side Swansea City and third-tier outfit Sunderland. But all four clubs could be about to lose to Dundee United.

A move to Dundee United would be somewhat surprising given the size of both Old Firm sides, and even Swansea and Sunderland. But it appears that no-one has followed in making an offer for Shankland as of yet.

TBR’s view

To score that multitude of goals in the second tier of Scottish football is more than proof that Shankland would find the back of the net regularly for either Rangers or Celtic.

Though he is somewhat below the calibre of player fans of both Old Firm sides expect, he certainly has huge potential. On a free transfer he would be an excellent signing, especially for Rangers, as he is a boyhood fan.
