Report: Nuno to change Tottenham formation, decision made on loanee

that Nuno Espirito Santo is to alter Tottenham Hotspur’s formation, and start with two strikers. The report claims the club have made signing Danny Ings from Southampton a priority, and he could be a part of a two-man attack. A decision has been made on Carlos Vinicius.

During the Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho eras, Tottenham only ever played with Harry Kane up top – and a winger either side of him. A 4-2-3-1, a 4-3-3 or even a 3-4-2-1. It was always Kane up top by himself. But Nuno is going to rip up the script and try something new.

A new striker is needed then, given the club have decided not to keep Vinicius – as the Telegraph reports. He has returned to Benfica, which was always likely given his £40million permanent option (). Ings could be brought in to play two up top this summer.

Two strikers could define Tottenham era under Nuno, Vinicius decision the right one

Signing Vinicius on a permanent deal, even if it was a much-reduced fee from the £40million clause, would have been a waste of time. He was hardly much of an improvement on Fernando Llorente, or even Vincent Janssen. Spurs need a better back-up, or Harry Kane partner.

Playing two up top could be the exciting, attacking change that is needed to spark some life back into Tottenham’s side. The last couple of seasons has seen Spurs hit a lull. They need something to look forward to. A couple of exciting signings and two up top with Kane is certainly optimistic.
