Report: Nottingham Forest register interest in Aston Villa-linked defender

that Nottingham Forest have registered an interest in Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe, but face competition from Aston Villa and Stoke City this summer.

Tuanzebe, 21, has featured heavily for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in pre-season, after an excellent campaign with Aston Villa last term in which he helped the Midlands side gain promotion via the Championship play-offs.

Villa have been linked with Tuanzebe for much of the transfer window but United have been keen to take a look at him, before making a decision. Now, with Harry Maguire signed, they are willing to let him leave on loan.

Dean Smith’s side are unlikely to go in for Tuanzebe despite his availability, after bringing in Kortney Hause, Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Bjorn Engels at centre-back. They already had James Chester.

But Nottingham Forest and Stoke City are still interested in the England youth international, though Stoke are leading the charge for Tuanzebe given that Nathan Jones’ side have made an enquiry.

TBR’s view – Tuanzebe excellent Championship signing

At Championship level, Tuanzebe has the potential to become one of the best centre-backs in the division this season if signed by either Stoke or Nottingham Forest.

His quality has already exceeded the second tier, especially considering that he has been linked with Villa and even considered by former boss Steve Bruce at Newcastle. Either Stoke or Forest would boost promotion chances with the signing of Tuanzebe.
