Report: Nottingham Forest players really thought ‘phenomenal’ midfielder was going to sign for them, he wanted the move
Nottingham Forest players really thought James Garner was going to sign for them this summer, .
Garner spent last season on loan at Forest and enjoyed a really successful spell there.
The former Manchester United man helped Steve Cooper’s men gain promotion back to the Premier League with solid performances in midfield.
Despite a decent spell under Cooper, the ‘phenomenal’ Garner has now ended up at Everton after a summer switch from United.
But his former teammates thought he would end up back at the City Ground.

Forest players thought Garner would sign
.
The 21-year-old had helped them gain promotion through the play-offs and some of his old teammates really thought he was going to re-sign for them.
Forest were the busiest club in the league over the summer as they added 21 new players to Cooper’s squad.
The Reds brought in three central midfielders in Orel Mangala, Lewis O’Brien and Remo Freuler.
So it seems that Cooper opted for other targets over Garner this summer.

Garner joined Everton on deadline day in a deal worth £15 million (). So he would have been available for Forest at a decent price.
By the time Garner became available though, Forest had already snapped up other targets so that could explain why they didn’t move for the player.
Now the Englishman will be playing his football at Goodison Park and Forest will be hoping they don’t end up regretting not making a move for him.
Garner is yet to make an appearance for the Toffees since making the switch to Merseyside. But with a packed schedule over the coming weeks, Frank Lampard could hand him his debut soon.
