Report: Nottingham Forest meticulously scouted ‘sensational’ summer signing for months before making offer

Nottingham Forest made more moves in the transfer window than any Premier League side in history.

Steve Cooper’s side brought in 22 new players, the latest of which was free agent Serge Aurier.

The Nigerian international was one of Forest’s first incomings, and briefly their record signing.

He’s also forever written into the club’s history books, scoring their first goal on their return to the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly given how many new players are in the squad, Cooper has rotated Awoniyi in and out of the side.

He’s featured in every Premier League match this season, although his side currently sit in the relegation zone.

Forest watched Awoniyi for months

The 24-year-old forward is well accustomed to playing for an English side, despite making his league debut for Forest.

The ‘sensational’ Awoniyi spent years on Liverpool’s books, but could never earn a work permit.

Jurgen Klopp was a fan of the forward though, and will be looking forward to playing the Nigerian next month.

Forest had to move quickly to sign some of the players they added to their squad this summer.

Cooper now has a variety of forwards he can choose from to lead his attack, all offering different attributes.

Awoniyi is quick, strong and brilliant at taking defenders on one-v-one.

He would benefit from playmakers such as Morgan Gibbs-White playing behind him, feeding him through balls.

But could also be the perfect foil for Brennan Johnson, giving defenders two very different challenges to deal with.

Awoniyi’s wealth of talents mean it’s no surprise Forest were watching him for months, and fans will be hoping to see him spring into action again soon.
