Nottingham Forest had eyes on signing £20m Arsenal player if Anthony Elanga joined Newcastle

Nottingham Forest are never too far away from a big story on deadline day and here they are again with just hours to go.

The Reds have had a busy window themselves once again and have strengthened the squad for Nuno Santo throughout the summer.

As expected at the City Ground, deadline day has seen a number of players linked, both in and out.

Of course, one of the latest stories to do the rounds this evening has been the reports of Anthony Elanga being a target for Newcastle United.

Reports of Elanga to Newcastle have been quickly shot down though and it does seem like the Reds can put this one to bed.

However, according to , Forest had a back up plan in the form of an Arsenal outcast if they had lost Elanga.

Nottingham Forest keen on Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson

According to the report from TeamTalk, Forest were prepared to move quickly if Elanga had gone to Newcastle and had eyes on Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson.

Nelson is expected to remain at Arsenal after the sold Emile Smith Rowe and let Fabio Vieira go on loan.

However, with a asking price, Forest could well have tested the resolve of Arsenal late in the day.

It’s claimed that Forest are big fans of Nelson and had Elanga to the Magpies progressed, they were indeed ready to make a move on the Gunners.

Of course, with Elanga to Newcastle seemingly dead in the water before it got going, Nelson to Forest seems more of a non-story now.

Still, you never know on deadline day and if there’s any late movements out of Forest, then Nelson is one to watch.

Nelson is set for another disappointing season really and will need one of Arsenal’s big names to get an injury if he is to feature regularly.
