Report: Norwich interested in Danny Drinkwater

According to the , Norwich City have contacted Chelsea regarding the availability of Danny Drinkwater. The newly-promoted side apparently hold an interest in bringing the outcast midfielder to Carrow Road.

Drinkwater is certainly on the fringes of the Chelsea squad. Since his from Leicester City in 2017, the Englishman has struggled for game time with the London club. Last season, the 29-year-old’s only first team outing came in the Community Shield. For the good of his own career, Drinkwater must secure a move away from the west London club with summer.

Despite the fact that Chelsea are currently under a transfer ban, they have enough midfield options on their books to easily cope without Drinkwater. Therefore, Frank Lampard should not hesitate to sanction the three-cap England international’s departure. The time has come for Chelsea to cut their losses.

However, it is easy to see why Norwich are interested in the midfielder. Drinkwater has shone in the Premier League before. He played a key role in Leicester’s astonishing title-winning 2015/16 campaign. If he could get back to that level, then Drinkwater would be a fine addition to Daniel Farke’s squad.

Drinkwater would get plenty of game time at Carrow Road. He would also work well within Farke’s preferred system. Therefore, this is a move that would suit all involved.
