Report: Newcastle want new Brazilian defender amid Diego Carlos issues
Newcastle United are now interested in Galatasaray defender Marcao as they struggle to get a deal over the line for countryman Diego Carlos, .
The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for Carlos throughout the January transfer window. However, Tuttomercatoweb reports that they are having difficulties trying to agree a deal for the Sevilla star.

And with that, they are considering other names. And one of those now on their radar is Marcao – who has had an interesting season to say the least.
that Gala want £12.5 million for the 25-year-old. And that relatively low asking price may have something to do with a red card he picked up earlier in the season.

Marcao was sent off against Giresunspor for head-butting and attempting to punch a teammate. He went on to serve an eight-match ban in the top-flight.
Remarkably, he then missed the reverse fixture with Giresunspor due to the number of yellow cards he had also received.
In total, he has received 54 yellow cards and four reds in 187 appearances (). So discipline would certainly be a worry if he ended up on Tyneside.
Newcastle going from Diego Carlos to Marcao will likely disappoint Magpies fans
In truth, it is hard to see Newcastle making the move for Marcao. Signing Carlos would be a hugely exciting statement of intent from Eddie Howe’s side. Sevilla, of course, are in contention for the La Liga title this season.
Admitting defeat in that pursuit and switching their attention to Marcao would be an underwhelming decision from the Newcastle hierarchy.
He would cost considerably less. And he has been much more impressive in the Europa League. But it is not an inspiring piece of business by any means.
Newcastle fans may well hope that nothing comes of the reports. They definitely require a new centre-back. But Marcao is not a player that would immediately capture the imagination.
