Report: Newcastle want Chelsea’s Ross Barkley, even if they land Joe Willock
Newcastle United could make their move for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley this summer, even if they do sign Joe Willock from Arsenal.
The Magpies are looking to strengthen the ranks this summer after Steve Bruce once again guided them to safety last season. It’s widely known that Willock is their number one target.
However, Arsenal are yet to make their mind up on the goalscoring midfielder, prompting Bruce and Newcastle to come up with other solutions.

And one such solution is Ross Barkley. claim that Barkley, along with Conor Gallagher, are two Chelsea players the Magpies are looking at.
Interestingly, it suggests that Barkley could be signed even if the club do indeed land Willock. The England midfielder, who has 33 caps for the Three Lions, spent last season with Aston Villa.
Barkley has struggled to find his best form for Chelsea ever since signing for them for After emerging at Everton and being compared to Paul Gascoigne, Barkley has somewhat failed to live up to the hype.
Time to shine
There simply has to be a season where Ross Barkley shows everyone what he can do. And not just in fits and starts.
He did well for Villa at times before dying off a bit. But there is no doubt there is a talented midfielder in there. You don’t appear over 30 times for England without being such a talent.
A move to Newcastle might suit him as well. He’d be one of the main players, and Bruce would no doubt ensure he feels loved. And with the Toon Army returning, Barkley might do the business.
Regardless of Willock arriving, Ross Barkley would certainly add to this Newcastle side at present.
