Report: Newcastle want Celtic star, but Nice lead race

Newcastle United want Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie, that Nice lead the race to sign the Scotland international.

Christie has been a key man for some time now. And he has started the season in reasonably good form. The 25-year-old has scored three goals and contributed seven assists in all competitions.

Celtic managed to keep hold of Christie over the summer. But it appears that they may face a major battle to keep him at Parkhead when the international window opens again.

Meanwhile, Nice recently sent representatives to have a look at Christie. It is claimed that the Ligue 1 side value him at £10 million and are now in pole position to secure a deal.

, his contract expires in 2022. So if Celtic cannot reach an agreement over fresh terms, perhaps they may have to consider offers for Christie before too long.

It would be a big blow for Neil Lennon’s men to lose him anytime soon. His form has come in for criticism at times, but there is no question that he is capable of game-changing performances.

But the interest in him will do Celtic few favours as they try to agree a new contract. If he is tempted to consider his options, he may perhaps demand significantly-improved terms.

That may leave the Bhoys with a dilemma. And it may prove to be an issue that ultimately divides some of the Celtic fans.
