Report: Newcastle want Alex Grimaldo; battling Manchester City
Newcastle United are one of the sides who want Alex Grimaldo, that Manchester City also have their eye on the 26-year-old.
The Magpies got the chance to see Grimaldo up close this week. The Spaniard was part of the Benfica side who won 3-2 in a pre-season friendly against Eddie Howe’s men.

He actually scored for the home side shortly after the half-hour mark. It was a gorgeous free-kick that seemed to dip wildly and left Nick Pope with little chance.
And perhaps Newcastle may not have minded too much to see his effort fly into the top corner. That is because it seems that Grimaldo is actually a player the Magpies want to sign this summer.

He has been linked with a move to the Premier League for much of the window. Reports claimed that Arsenal had made a bid for the former Barcelona youngster. Meanwhile, Manchester City also want him.
that Pep Guardiola is keen on Grimaldo. But they are not alone.
Barcelona would like to re-sign Grimaldo. Meanwhile, Juventus and Newcastle also want the full-back. Benfica have set an asking price of £16.8 million.
Newcastle want Alex Grimaldo
It would perhaps be a surprise if Newcastle made a bid for Grimaldo. They have ensured that Matt Targett will be staying following his impressive loan spell last season.
And they have several others who can play in that position. The likes of Javier Manquillo, Jamal Lewis and Kieran Trippier can all be used there. Even Dan Burn has experience of playing on the left.
Obviously, he is not too expensive. And he is clearly a very good player, with City, Juve and Barca all keen.
But the priority has to be signing players further up the field. So you would imagine that any move from Grimaldo may be on the back-burner for the time-being.
