Report: Newcastle to appoint title-winning manager on £6m-a-year deal
Newcastle United have decided to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their new manager, after Amanda Staveley won a mini boardroom battle to get the man she wanted.
had claimed that some at Newcastle wanted to bring in Frank Lampard. However, then reported that Lampard wasn’t actually in the frame for the job, after not even handing an application in.
And has seemingly backed up that report, claiming that Fonseca is now the man Newcastle will appoint, with a £6m-a-year deal ready to be signed by the former Roma manager.
It’s claimed Amanda Staveley has won out in what is likely to be the first of many a battle at board level since PIF took control of the club. It was believed that Jamie Reuben, part of the consortium to take over at Newcastle, was high on appointing Lampard.
Fonseca, it seems, will likely become the new man in charge now. The Magpies drew their first game under Graeme Jones today, 1-1.
A late VAR call ensured Newcastle drew the game. Callum Wilson scored a stunning goal to level things, after Christian Benteke had given Palace the lead.

While it’s not really gone on that long, it does seem to have dragged on a bit in the last few days especially. But it seems that Newcastle are finally coming to a conclusion.
Fonseca should prove a decent appointment. While he doesn’t have the experience in England, he has been successful elsewhere and did well at Roma in his first year in charge.
A £6m-a-year contract is a big one for Fonseca. The immediate concern is keeping the Magpies up. But longer term, the former Shakhtar coach should be able to bring his ways and ultimately, success, to the club.
