Report: Newcastle table mammoth offer to sign Lazio striker Ciro Immobile

that Newcastle United have tabled a mammoth £50million bid to sign Lazio striker Ciro Immobile this summer – in a deal that could be worth a whopping £120million in total.

Immobile has been in stunning form for Lazio, who have climbed Serie A to sit in a lofty second place after 26 matches. The 30-year-old has netted an excellent 30 goals in just 33 outings – and created seven more.

The report claims Newcastle are ready to flex their potential financial power. Though a takeover is yet to be announced and there is doubt over a £300million deal, the club are repeatedly linked with big-money signings.

Though a move is unlikely, Gazzetta claim that Newcastle have tabled a £50million fee for the Italy international. It also claims that they will offer Immobile £14million a season, before tax, for five seasons.

That equates to a whopping £120million in total, and around £270,000 a week before tax. Newcastle have been linked with numerous players and such rumours are founded on whether a takeover is completed, or not.

TBR’s view – Is a big-money move for Immobile the right decision?

Certainly, Immobile is a top, top striker. Though he has gone through dry patches throughout his career, his four-year spell at Lazio has certainly got the best out of him – netting 116 times in 167 games.

At 30 years of age, he is in his peak – in Italian football. Whether Immobile would be able to score goals in the Premier League remains to be seen. He has struggled in Spain and Germany, with Sevilla and Dortmund.

Newcastle must be sure that Immobile will score goals – if they are willing to table such a deal.
