Report: Newcastle have a genuine chance of signing ‘special’ player, who scored three times at the World Cup

Newcastle United have a genuine chance of snaring Cody Gakpo from the clutches of Manchester United, It’s claimed that Newcastle’s financial power has propelled them into the race to try and land the Holland striker.

It was a World Cup to remember for the talented youngster. He scored three times at his maiden tournament and he could be set to become one of Europe’s top strikers when he leaves PSV.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been mightily impressed with the player. He’s scored 18 goals and claimed 18 assists for club and country during 2022/23 and has been called by his boss.

Given his form, Gakpo is no being lined up for a big-money transfer. Real Madrid, Arsenal and United are all in the frame to sign the player over the next month or so.

In an ideal world, PSV would keep him until the end of the season. He could genuinely help them topple Ajax in the race for the title and Van Nistelrooy would welcome that.

Newcastle do provide an attractive proposition these days though. Now backed by Saudi investment, the Magpies has genuine ambitions of winning silverware very soon.

Eddie Howe has got the team playing some magnificent football and at the break for the World Cup, the team sat in a somewhat surprising third-place position.

Newcastle have genuine chance of signing Gakpo

It’d be an absolute dream for Newcastle to land Gakpo during the January transfer window. If he does arrive at St James’ Park, it could help the team finish inside the top four this season.

Newcastle won’t be judged on whether or not they reach the Champions League this season. However, with some of the bigger sides in the division struggling, this opportunity needs to be grasped.

Gakpo has got the lot! He is quick, skilful and can play out wide or through the middle as a centre-forward.

As a result, Newcastle have to act and if they can beat Manchester United to his signature it could represent a sign of the times over the next few years.
