It would appear that Newcastle have wasted little time weighing up whether to make a move. that the Magpies have made a bid worth around £25 million.

The report notes that Il Toro have rejected the offer. They hope to agree a new contract with Bremer – his current terms expire in 2023 – and hold onto him until the summer.

Newcastle do not appear to be in strong position in Bremer chase

It remains to be seen if Newcastle return with a fresh offer. Certainly, they will be hoping that the centre-back does them a favour and suggests to Torino that he would like to join Eddie Howe’s side. .

Whether he will have any interest is debatable. His stock is incredibly high right now. So joining a club initially battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League may not appeal.

Torino may be willing to provide assurances that he can leave in the summer to ensure that he signs a new contract. And Bremer will be aware that there is likely to be a lot more interest at the end of the season.

So Newcastle may need to pull something special out of the bag to get a deal across the line.
