Newcastle’s new owners are ‘confident’ of completing a deal to sign Burnley defender James Tarkowski in January.
Tarkowski, 29, has been excellent for Burnley since joining the club five years ago. But he looks set to move, with his contract expiring in June.
While Burnley will be keen for Tarkowski to see out the season at Turf Moor, they may have to accept an offer in order to bring in some cash.
January presents Burnley with the last opportunity to get some money for the defender. The two-time England international is likely to be on the go.
Excellent in the air, but confident with the ball at his feet – Tarkowski has clocked up 195 games for Burnley, 200 by the time January comes around.
The report claims that Newcastle are keen, and the club’s new owners are actually ‘confident’ of securing a deal. It is unclear what the price will be.

So, the Toon need more than just four players for three positions. Not only that, but Tarkowski is a huge improvement on the club’s current options.
Having Lascelles and Tarkowski at centre-back, alongside a left-footed centre-back, gives Newcastle the best chance of staying up.
