Newcastle on pole for Memphis Depay deal
Reports from on Wednesday claimed that Newcastle had actually made a £17.5 million bid for Depay.

Sport is suggesting that it is indeed Eddie Howe’s leading the race to sign Depay. And interestingly, they add that Depay could be persuaded to make the move to Tyneside – despite his reluctance to leave Barcelona before the end of his contract.
Of course, Newcastle can offer him a place in a side which is developing at a rapid rate. The Magpies look to be well ahead of schedule this season, with Howe’s men sat third in the Premier League right now.
They have been extremely entertaining. And no side in the division has conceded fewer goals than Newcastle.
They have a brilliant opportunity to achieve something special. And signing players such as Depay during the January window may accelerate their push up the table.
Despite Barca wanting to offload Depay, he has proved to be a decent signing. He has scored 14 goals in 42 games in all competitions.
He was previously prolific for Lyon. And Louis van Gaal suggested that he is an ‘‘ player ahead of the World Cup.
Newcastle will hope that they can convince Depay into the move in the next few days.
