Report: Newcastle offered Everton-linked Serie A midfielder

that Inter Milan have offered midfielder Joao Mario to Newcastle United, just days after reports emerged they had done the same to Everton.

Euro 2016 winner Mario is on the fringes at Inter Milan and it seems as though manager Luciano Spalletti wants to get rid of the 26-year-old. He managed just 22 appearances throughout 2018-19.

The Daily Mail recently claimed that Everton were offered the chance to sign Mario, who impressed during a loan spell at West Ham United in the second half of the 2017-18 campaign.

Now, Newcastle have been given the chance if the latest reports are to be believed. It is said Newcastle would have to spend around £17million to land Mario, making him the club’s second most expensive transfer in their history.

TBR’s view

Mario would be an excellent addition to a Newcastle side that is somewhat lacking in flair. Miguel Almiron and Ayoze Perez certainly provide the flair, but Perez’s future is in doubt and Almiron is still getting to grips with the Premier League.

The Inter star has Premier League experience, as well as the ability to create something out of nothing and score goals himself from midfield.

He is also able to play out wide, in the number 10 role or even deeper in midfield. At £17million, Mario could prove to be a bargain for Newcastle.
