Report: Newcastle now want to sign ‘outstanding’ £47m midfielder who came so close to joining Tottenham
Newcastle United are now part of the hotly-contested chase to sign Moroccan World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat.
The have named Newcastle among the teams keeping tabs on the man Joe Cole called ‘outstanding’ in Qatar.
Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid are named among the competitors for the 26-year-old’s signature.
Tottenham have also been linked with the 26-year-old and he came so close to joining them last January before the deal failed to get over the line.

Newcastle keen on Amrabat
Spurs got Rodrigo Bentancur instead, which has worked out well for them and the Uruguayan did perform well at the World Cup.
But Amrabat has been one of the stars of the tournament as Morocco became the first African team in history to make the semi-finals.
He does the work of two men in that midfield area and that dynamism looks perfectly suited to the demands of the Premier League.
A potential issue is that he has shone in a team who play primarily on the counter attack and he may need to adjust if he joined a club who dominate the ball.
But he does look to have quality in his play too and his best years should be ahead of him even if he makes a big move in the next two transfer windows.
Players are not just signed on the back of a good few games at a World Cup any more, so it is likely Amrabat has been on Newcastle’s radar for a while and it is just a case of if and when they take the plunge and firm up their interest.
