Report: Newcastle now want £27m PL forward with ‘great quality’
Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur, that his representatives are looking at potential loan moves away during the January transfer window.
Bergwijn’s future remains up in the air. The forward has been on the periphery of the Spurs squad since Antonio Conte was appointed.

Conte has claimed that the Dutchman is a player with great quality. Meanwhile, Lucas Moura has previously lauded him for being ‘‘. And 90min reports that Tottenham are yet to make a decision on Bergwijn. But his agents are working on a potential move away for the 24-year-old.
Ajax have reportedly seen a loan bid rejected.

And now, that Newcastle are considering a move. It is noted that Bergwijn’s representatives also work with Sven Botman, who has been heavily linked with a Tyneside transfer this month.
He is one of a number of players wanted by the Magpies as they look to bolster their attacking options.
Tottenham need to snub loan interest in Steven Bergwijn as Newcastle eye move
Bergwijn has struggled in the Premier League. And Tottenham would be wise to consider offers. However, loaning him to Newcastle would arguably not be a smart move.
The Magpies are in trouble. And Bergwijn does not appear to be a player with a lot of confidence right now. So that may not be the best move for him.
Tottenham also lack depth up front themselves. And Bergwijn is one player who can occupy a variety of roles in the final third. So loaning him out would be a poor move unless a replacement is coming in.
Obviously, the situation could change if a club makes a bid to sign Bergwijn permanently. But Spurs should be wary of letting him join the Magpies on loan.
