West Ham had hoped that Ashby would sign a new deal. However, it seems that he will be on the move before too long.

, Newcastle tried to sign the 21-year-old in the summer. Ultimately however, Ashby ended up staying put at the last minute.

But the report adds that the Magpies will not be denied for much longer. In fact, 90min reports that the full-back is likely to join Eddie Howe’s men during the January transfer window for a nominal fee.

It benefits Newcastle and West Ham to agree a deal for Ashby in the near future. The uncertainty probably does the youngster no favours. He has not been named in a Premier League squad by David Moyes since August.

The Irons are somewhat powerless to stop Ashby leaving if he is not interested in signing a new deal. So getting him off the books and getting a fee is better than nothing.

Meanwhile, Newcastle can get Ashby through the door a few months earlier than if they had waited until his contract had expired.

Howe will hope that he can prove to be another inspired signing for the club. The Magpies have done some amazing business since the new owners came in.

Ashby is a ‘‘ talent with a very bright future, it seems. And Newcastle will hope that they are vindicated for working so hard to get him.
