Report: Newcastle narrow down shortlist to three managers, one Englishman

Newcastle have narrowed down their search to three, including Eddie Howe – after a glowing verdict from Jamie and Harry Redknapp.

Steve Bruce’s future is hanging by a thread at Newcastle, after Tottenham beat the Toon 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at St. James’ Park.

It was deemed somewhat of a surprise for Bruce to be in the job as Spurs took on Newcastle. But the new owners are yet to make a decision.

However, they are getting closer. That is according to the latest report, which states they have narrowed down their shortlist to just three.

Upon the recommendation of both Redknapps, Howe is one of those three. He almost joined Celtic in the summer, but for a change of heart.

Paulo Fonseca is another of those three – having spoken to Everton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace in the summer. A third is Lucien Favre.

Favre, Howe or Fonseca: Which would be best for Newcastle?

Favre is probably the one with the best CV. He has managed the likes of Gladbach, Dortmund, Nice and Lille – impressing with all.

Out of work, the Frenchman would be a brilliant addition to the club. But Fonseca would also be a good appointment, impressing at Roma.

The Portuguese gaffer took Roma to the semi-finals of the Europa League last season, only losing to Manchester United in the last four.

Howe is the only one with Premier League experience, but he has only ever impressed at Bournemouth. It will be interested to see if he can adapt.
