According to a report from , Newcastle United have made fresh enquiries to sign Zenit St Petersburg star Sardar Azmoun.

The Magpies are on the market looking for all the help they can possibly get. A new striker is a priority for Eddie Howe after Callum Wilson’s injury and Joelinton’s change of position.

Newcastle have been linked with a number of players already and Azmoun was reportedly a target a few weeks ago. Those rumours quietened down as we headed into the Christmas period, but it looks like Newcastle have reignited their interest.

The Magpies have reportedly made a new move to sign the striker.

Newcastle have enquired about signing Sardar Azmoun

The Iranian has been linked with a move away from the Russian capital for a long time now, but it could finally happen this month. Azmoun has entered the final six months of his contract and this is Zenit’s last opportunity to make some money off him.

Azmoun has impressed this season. He has scored 10 goals and has provided four assists in all competitions so far. He even managed to find the net against European champions Chelsea and Italian giants Juventus, which shows that he isn’t fazed when he comes up against the bigger sides.

Labelled as a ‘‘ striker in the penalty area by ex-Iran boss Dragan Skocic, Azmoun has all the qualities to shine in the Premier League and at 27, he is entering the prime years of his career.

The Iranian Messi

Azmoun has been making the headlines for a long time. The now 27-year-old was even dubbed as the ‘‘ when he was younger.

He may not have reached the heights that the legendary Argentinian has, but Azmoun is still a very talented player and Newcastle could really benefit from signing him in the coming days.

It will be interesting to see how much Zenit will demand for their star striker. With just six months left on his deal, he will likely be available for a bargain fee, but if the Russians decide not to let him leave until the summer, the Magpies will have to look elsewhere.
