Report: Newcastle make contact with agents of three big-name players
that Newcastle United’s potential new board have already made contact with the agents of thre big-name players – in the form of PSG striker Edinson Cavani, Chelsea winger Willian and Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
Mike Ashley’s reign as owner looks as though it is about to come to an end as Amanda Staveley’s bid to takeover comes to fruition, mainly thanks to financial backing from the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF).
The £300million agreement has seen plenty of talk about new managers and players, and the latest report claims contact has been made between the potential new board and the agents of Cavani, Willian and Mertens.
All three players are out of contract at the end of the season, though all three are earning enormous amounts in wages. It remains to be seen if any would entertain a move to Newcastle in the coming months.

TBR’s view – Cavani would be the perfect summer signing
Willian and Mertens would not be so bad, either. But what Newcastle need, more than anything, is a proper number nine – someone who can score more goals and have much more of an impact than Joelinton.
Cavani is that man. With Mauro Icardi preferred by Thomas Tuchel as PSG’s number nine, Cavani is due to leave the French club this summer and available on a free, Newcastle could leap to offer him a new project.
Newcastle do have Miguel Almiron as a number 10 and that would see him rival Mertens for a place in the side, while Willian is a top player and is proven in the Premier League. All on a free, Newcastle could instantly show their weight in the window.
