Report: Newcastle ‘looking closely’ at Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos
that Newcastle United are ‘looking closely’ at Rangers star Alfredo Morelos – as the new owners draw up a shortlist.
Morelos, 25, is one goal short of reaching a century in Rangers colours – scoring another five this season. He has been linked with a move south.
The Colombia international has been pivotal to Steven Gerrard’s reign at Rangers – despite initially joining the club under Pedro Caixinha in 2017.
Not only has he 99 goals in 196 games for the Gers, but also laid on a huge 45 assists for the Light Blues. Little surprise, then, that Newcastle are keen.
The Toon’s new owners have been linked with a huge amount of players already. But they do lack cover for Callum Wilson up top.
Joelinton has been poor, while Dwight Gayle is likely to be sold. Wilson has been injured regularly since his move to Tyneside from Bournemouth.

Newcastle eye Morelos: Edouard should tempt Toon to Rangers ace
Odsonne Edouard has dropped down into English from football after shining for Celtic, producing similar levels of form across Glasgow.
His initial start at Palace has been excellent. Scoring two against Tottenham on his debut after coming off the bench, Edouard has been a good signing.
It should show Newcastle’s owners that signing a player from Scottish football is not actually a risk. Morelos would sparkle in the Premier League.
His aggression, work rate and creativity would take Newcastle to the next level – and seriously push Wilson for a place in the side. A good addition.
