Report: Newcastle keen on signing loanee, but other duo yet to make impression

that Newcastle United are interested in signing Danny Rose on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur and the player wants to sanction a move – but the Toon are yet to decide on another duo.

Rose, 30, has been first choice for Steve Bruce since the England international moved to Newcastle on loan from Tottenham in January. He was one of three players to have joined the Toon in the January window, on loan.

Nabil Bentaleb joined on a loan-to-buy deal from Schalke, while Valentino Lazaro also moved to Tyneside on a similar type of deal from Inter Milan. But neither are considered starters, despite starting against Manchester City.

The report claims that Bruce wants to sign Rose on a permanent basis and the player wants to join, with less than 12 months on his Tottenham deal left. But Bruce is yet to be convinced by Bentaleb or Lazaro.

TBR’s view – Signing Rose is a no-brainer

But landing Bentaleb – who struggled against Manchester City, though somewhat understandably – would hardly be a signing that pushes Newcastle forward. He is no improvement on what The Toon already have.

Lazaro has shown in glimpses that he is capable of impressing for the Toon and has scored two goals, one in a 4-1 win over Bournemouth. He would be a good signing, but only as cover for Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.
