Report: Newcastle join West Ham and Crystal Palace in race for Michy Batshuayi

that Newcastle are interested in signing another Chelsea player, this time in the form of striker Michy Batshuayi – but the Toon’s potential new owners will face plenty of Premier League competition.

Newcastle have already been linked with signing soon-to-be free agents Willian () and Pedro (), while  claim Ross Barkley could be signed if Rafa Benitez returns to Tyneside.

Now, Newcastle are said to be interested in signing 26-year-old striker Batshuayi – who has found himself third choice under Frank Lampard, behind Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.

Belgium international Batshuayi has an excellent goalscoring record wherever he has played, including 25 goals in 77 Chelsea outings – considering a whopping 54 of those have been substitute appearances.

The report states Newcastle are interested in signing the former Dortmund, Palace and Valencia loanee, but face competition from West Ham and Palace, who want to bring the £33million () signing back.

TBR’s view – Batshuayi would be an underrated signing

Batshuayi has had it tough at Chelsea. To have scored at a ratio of one every three games – despite only starting 23 times for Chelsea out of 77 – is highly impressive. But the striker hardly gets recognition for that.

Six goals in 13 at Palace, nine in 14 at Dortmund, 33 in 78 at Marseille and 16 in 29 Belgium caps prove he is a top-quality striker. Given the confidence to start week in, week out, he may thrive at Newcastle.
