Report: Newcastle join Celtic in race to sign David Turnbull

that Newcastle United and Steve Bruce have joined Scottish champions Celtic on a lengthy list of admirers that are interested in raiding Motherwell for goalscoring midfielder David Turnbull.

Turnbull, 21, broke onto the scene at Motherwell after shining during the 2018-19 campaign – in which he scored 15 goals and created six more in 31 appearances for Stephen Robinson’s side. It attracted Celtic.

However, the Hoops overlooked a move after a medical showed concerns. Weeks later, he suffered a season-ending knee injury after just two appearances for Motherwell – but Celtic remain interested.

But Neil Lennon’s side are not the only club interested in Turnbull. Newcastle are the latest name to be tracking the Scotland Under-21 international, who is rated at £3million. Stoke City are also linked.

TBR’s view – Bruce trying to engineer next McGinn move

Back at Aston Villa, Bruce chose to spend a similar amount and beat Celtic to the signing of John McGinn from Hibernian. McGinn has since gone on to become one of Villa’s best players, shining in the Premier League.

Bruce, in fact, labelled McGinn as one of his best ever signings. So, it may come as little surprise that he is trying to engineer a somewhat similar move for a goalscoring midfielder that is linked with Celtic, again.

At just £3million, Turnbull could be a bargain.
