Report: Newcastle interested in PSV attacker, £8.5m asking price
that Lyon and Newcastle United are going head-to-head to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo this month – and could nab him for just £8.5million.
Gakpo, 20, hs come through PSV’s academy and broken into the Eredivisie side’s senior team – clocking up 51 appearances in total. He has had an instant impact, scoring seven goals and laying on 14 assists in that time.
Still very young, Gakpo has also scored two goals in five appearances for the Netherlands Under-21 side throughout his career and is highly-rated in his own country. Lyon have opened initial discussions with PSV for Gakpo.
However, the French side are supposedly being rivalled by Newcastle for the attacker – who can play on both flanks and has even been known to play up front. It is believed PSV want around £8.5million for the Dutchman.

TBR’s view – Gakpo could be a bargain at just £8.5m
Not only would he be a bargain, given his potential for enormous resale value and the fact he is probably worth more than that figure anyway, but because Newcastle desperately need top-quality cover out wide.
Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie have looked off the pace this season, while Allan Saint-Maximin remains injured. It has seen Joelinton play out wide, and even Dwight Gayle has been running the channels when given a chance.
A winger is needed and a player of Gakpo’s quality at just 20 years of age is a bargain.
