Report: Newcastle in pole position to sign Axel Tuanzebe

Newcastle United are allegedly in pole position to sign Manchester United centre-back Axel Tuanzebe on loan.

What’s the story?

According to , the player and his agent are ‘delighted by the Geordies’ interest.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce believes Tuanzebe has a bright future ahead of him.

United are not against the idea of loaning out the 23-year-old after they completed a deal for Raphael Varane.

Last season was a miserable campaign for the DR Congo-born ace. He featured to great effect versus PSG in the Champions League, but made just across all competitions.

Newcastle need to move quickly

It would be fair to say the Magpies may have secured their first deal of the summer window.

However, Newcastle need to move quickly to secure the rest of their deals amid a loan for Tuanzebe.

The new season gets underway two weeks on Friday and the club are just about on the cusp of their first deal.

But, when you look at Newcastle’s squad, it is full to the brim with unbalance and holes.

In defence, there was an uncertainty around their players’ fitness. Federico Fernandez played the most Premier League games of any centre-half, just 24. However, that is fixed with the addition of soon-to-be Toon loanee Tuanzebe.,

In midfield, is out of action for a while, meaning there is still the need for at least one player. The deal for Joe Willock seems to be taking an age and, despite the club’s recent confidence, it could still drag on for a while with AS Monaco joining the race.

Meanwhile, Callum Wilson desperately needs support after a lack of help last term.

Slow transfer business could be the reason for a slow start to the season in what would be a hammer blow for the club.
