Calhanoglu is capable of moments of sheer brilliance. He is a set-piece specialist, who had previously provided 13 assists across his two full seasons in Serie A.
But it should be noted that he has only been directly involved in four league goals this term. That record suggests that it may be more of a roll of the dice for Newcastle to make a bid.
If they sign the Turkey international and he rediscovers his best form, bringing him in could be a masterstroke. But you could understand if the fans had their doubts.
