Report: Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman to rejoin Swansea on loan
that Swansea City are set to agree a second season-long loan spell for Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, after the stopper impressed in Swansea colours last season.
Woodman, 23, went on loan to his fifth club last season in Swansea – after previous spells with Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Crawley and Hartlepool. He has only played four times for Newcastle at senior level.
Last season, the England Under-20 World Cup winner starred for Championship side Swansea as they reached the play-offs – only to lose to Brentford in the semi-finals. He conceded 50 goals in 43 games, keeping 12 clean sheets.
Now, it is claimed that Woodman is set to rejoin Swansea – and although he currently has just 12 months left on his current Toon deal, it is believed he will sign a new contract at Newcastle before the loan is completed.
TBR’s view – Woodman too good to warm the bench
Newcastle seemingly know that. With Karl Darlow and new signing Mark Gillespie still on the books at Newcastle, there is no point keeping Woodman at the club to warm the bench – even if he is arguably second best of the four.
Letting him go back on loan to Swansea is ideal for all parties involved. It gives him game time at a club that Woodman now knows – but tying him down to a new contract before the loan is crucial.
